The Power of Showing Up!

Studies consistently show that female athletes who feel supported by their community are more likely to stay in sports longer, perform better academically, develop stronger mental health, and go on to lead in their schools, careers, and communities. But support does not appear automatically. Somebody has to choose to show up first.

GIRLS makes that choice — every single time. We fill bleachers, make noise, hold signs, cheer names, and make sure every female student-athlete on that field, court, or track knows without question that her community sees her and believes in her.

That is not a small thing. That is everything.

We Fill the Bleachers

Girls sports have historically drawn smaller crowds than boys sports — not because the games are less exciting but because nobody organized the support. GIRLS changes that. Our chapter members attend female athletic events at their schools and communities, arriving early, sitting together, and bringing the kind of energy that reminds every athlete on that team that what she is doing matters. We make signs. We learn names. We cheer loud. We stay until the final buzzer.

When GIRLS shows up — the whole atmosphere changes.

We Build Spirit Sections

A spirit section is more than a group of people cheering. It is a visible declaration that these athletes matter. GIRLS organizes dedicated spirit sections at girls sporting events — coordinating chapter members, recruiting students, parents, and community members to join us, and creating the kind of gameday energy that female athletes deserve but rarely receive.

We bring the signs. We bring the chants. We bring the people. You just need to show up with us.

We Go Into Schools

Inspiration starts early. GIRLS chapter members visit middle schools and elementary schools in their communities to introduce younger girls to the world of sports — what it teaches, what it builds, and what it opens up. We talk to girls who have never thought of themselves as athletes and show them that sports is not just for the girls who are already playing. It is for every girl who is curious enough to try.

The goal is simple — when those girls get to high school we want them to already know that GIRLS is in their corner.

We Partner With Our Community

GIRLS does not work alone. We actively build relationships with local parks and recreation departments, churches, youth organizations, community centers, and local businesses to create a network of support around female student-athletes. Our community partners host gear drives, sponsor events, provide meeting spaces, and help us reach girls who need us most.

If your organization wants to be part of what GIRLS is building we would love to hear from you.

We Celebrate Every Win

GIRLS shows up for games — but we also show up for the moments that do not make the scoreboard. We celebrate academic achievements, personal milestones, college commitments, and the everyday acts of courage it takes to be a female athlete. We post athlete spotlights. We send congratulations. We show up at signing days. We remind girls that their wins — big and small — are worth celebrating loudly.

Community engagement only works when the community shows up. Here is how you can be part of what GIRLS is building:

Attend a Game

Volunteer

Spread the Word

Come to a Girls Game

The simplest and most powerful thing you can do. Find out when the next girls sporting event is at your local school and show up. You do not need to be a GIRLS member. You do not need to know anyone on the team. You just need to be there — because being there is the whole point.

Follow us on social media @girlpowerinsports to find out when GIRLS will be attending games near you.

Volunteer With GIRLS

Whether you want to help organize game day events, assist with gear drives, speak at a chapter meeting, mentor a student athlete, or support our school outreach efforts — we have a place for you. GIRLS runs on the energy and commitment of community volunteers who believe that girls deserve better.

Share Our Mission

Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is tell someone else about us. Share our social media posts. Tell a parent whose daughter plays sports. Send our link to a local business that might want to sponsor us. Tag a coach who needs to know GIRLS exists. Every share puts us in front of someone who might change everything for a girl in our community.

Where the Mission Lives Every Day

GIRLS chapters are where everything you have read on this page actually happens. They are the beating heart of our organization — student-led, community-supported, and adult-supervised groups that bring the GIRLS mission directly into schools and communities across the country.

Every chapter is a home base for female student-athletes to gather, support each other, build community, and access the resources, mentorship, and advocacy that GIRLS provides. When a school has a GIRLS chapter — everything changes for the girls inside it.
